VOLUNTEER CENTRE

Volunteering, whilst rewarding in itself, can often enable retired people to acquire a new social life whilst also providing a means of ‘giving something back’ to society.  For younger people it can be a way to gain work experience, find a pathway into their chosen career field and keep references up to date.

Here at AVA we support local volunteering in two ways…

The Volunteer Centre

We maintain a database of volunteering opportunities provided by local voluntary and community sector organisations.

The Volunteer Centre helps people who wish to volunteer to find placements in local organisations.  Our office is open to callers, or you can telephone first to make an appointment.

Some people want help in identifying a suitable placement, discuss further an opportunity they have already identified or want to explore if a placement best suits their circumstances and skills.

We then refer interested parties on by making initial contact with the organisation concerned.

Volunteering within AVA

Volunteers are vitally important to AVA.  All volunteers are covered by AVA’s insurance, which includes some personal accident cover, and all expenses are reimbursed.

We are always looking to fill a variety of roles.  If you have any of the following experience and/or skills we would be pleased to discuss further with you whether a placement with us is what might best suit you…

Reception and office administration; database maintenance; minute taking & committee support; writing press releases; effective use of social media; community development; project co-ordination; fund raising; graphic design; marketing; book keeping; budget control and financial forecasting; social research or statistics.
