Why Volunteer?

Voluntary activities benefit individuals, families and the community. People get involved for all sorts of reasons, such as:

  • To get to know a community
  • To keep busy
  • To use your skills
  • To learn something new
  • For a challenge
  • To make new friends
  • To explore a career
  • For fun
  • A step towards employment
  • To support a cause/belief

Who Volunteers?

There is no typical volunteer. Volunteers tend to fall into several groups:

  • Recently retired people seeking to keep active
  • People with personal experience of a particular problem
  • Faith organisations
  • Young people
  • People of working age
  • People seeking paid employment
  • Offenders and probationers
  • People with illnesses or conditions which limit their lives
